“Resign Now!” Fury as PS Omollo Dragged Into Osotsi Attack Storm

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested three suspects linked to the violent attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu, as investigations into the incident gather pace.

In a statement issued on Thursday, April 9, the DCI confirmed that the suspects—aged 24, 27, and 39—were apprehended from the Nyalenda and Manyatta areas within Kisumu County. Authorities allege that the trio played a direct role in the assault that occurred on Wednesday at a popular restaurant inside West End Mall.

“Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kisumu County have arrested three suspects in connection with the attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi at Java House, West End Mall,” the agency said.

The incident, which has since sparked national outrage, reportedly unfolded in broad daylight at Java House located within the busy shopping complex. According to preliminary findings and CCTV footage, the senator was surrounded by a group of assailants, forced to the ground, and briefly overwhelmed before managing to escape.

Following the attack, Osotsi was airlifted to Nairobi to receive medical treatment, underscoring the severity of the assault.

Manhunt Intensifies

While confirming the arrests, the DCI revealed that efforts are ongoing to track down additional suspects believed to have been involved in the attack.

“DCI thanks members of the public who have volunteered useful information to aid the ongoing investigations and urges continued cooperation as detectives work to bring all perpetrators to justice,” the statement added.

The agency’s swift action comes amid mounting criticism from political figures allied to the senator, who had earlier accused security agencies of failing to act decisively.

Political Storm Erupts

The attack has quickly escalated into a political flashpoint, with opposition leaders directing sharp criticism at Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo.

Before the arrests were announced, Kalonzo Musyoka issued a 24-hour ultimatum demanding Omollo’s resignation, accusing him of orchestrating the attack—claims that have not been substantiated by investigators.

“Raymond Omollo should immediately resign. We demand that he resign immediately, and we are giving him up to tomorrow. Raymond Omollo’s name is plainly placed before Kenyans, and these are his goons,” Kalonzo said.

Meanwhile, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party also weighed in, condemning the violence in the strongest terms.

In a statement delivered by acting Secretary General Catherine Omondi, the party described the incident as a dangerous regression.

“The ODM party wishes to condemn in the strongest terms possible the attack and the eventual assault on Senator Godfrey Osotsi by armed goons in broad daylight at a Kisumu restaurant. This is clearly a criminal act,” the statement read.

Growing Concerns Over Political Violence

The brazen nature of the attack—captured on surveillance footage and carried out in a public setting—has raised fresh concerns about political intolerance and security lapses in the country.

As investigations continue, pressure is mounting on authorities to ensure all those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted, with the incident likely to remain in the national spotlight in the coming days.
