Ruto’s MC Mike Gitonga Confronts Drunk Driver in Bizarre Late-Night Road Drama
Mike Gitonga — the man known for coordinating presidential ceremonies — found himself in an unexpected roadside altercation over the weekend after a run-in with a driver who appeared to be intoxicated.
According to Gitonga, the incident unfolded as he was riding home on his BMW GS motorbike. A Ford Ranger Raptor driving on the wrong side of the road allegedly veered toward him, nearly forcing him into a ditch.
Gitonga confronted the motorist, questioning why he was driving recklessly instead of signaling for him to dim his lights.
“Why are you forcing me into the ditch? Why not flash a sign to tell me to keep my lights low?” he asked.
What followed was an unusually long, tense yet comical exchange between the two men — one sober and composed, the other seemingly impaired but surprisingly talkative.
When pressed about his condition, the driver denied being drunk and instead accused Gitonga of using his high-end BMW to intimidate others.
“That’s how you BMW guys behave… Because you own a BMW now, you think you are Jesus,” he shot back.
At one point, Gitonga shifted the tone, quoting John 3:16 and urging the man to reflect on his behaviour. The motorist responded with his own impromptu sermon, saying, “Just because you have money, do not show us. In heaven, there will be no BMWs.”
Gitonga calmly countered, “I’m not Jesus. Jesus did not have a BMW, so I don’t think I am.”
Despite the heated start, the bizarre standoff eventually dissolved into light-hearted conversation. The two exchanged names, shared a brief laugh, and went their separate ways without further incident.
Gitonga previously worked as a KTN News anchor and later served as Communication Director in the Office of the First Lady, Rachel Ruto. He was appointed Secretary of State for Functions in January 2023. He holds a Degree in Electrical Engineering from Nottingham University, a move he made after leaving France due to language barriers.
