At least one person is feared to have died after a small aircraft reportedly crashed in the Kipeto area of Kajiado County on Friday, September 18, with emergency teams rushing to the scene as authorities worked to establish what happened.
The aircraft is understood to have come down near a wind power plant in the area, although the circumstances leading to the crash remained unclear at the time of publication.
Preliminary reports suggested that at least one person may have lost their life in the incident. However, authorities had yet to officially confirm the number of fatalities or establish how many people were aboard the aircraft when it went down.
Emergency personnel and security officers were reportedly deployed to the crash site as efforts continued to secure the area, assess the wreckage and establish whether there were any survivors.
Aircraft Wreckage Scattered Across Field
Images circulating on social media and obtained by Kenyans.co.ke showed the aftermath of the crash, with the aircraft appearing to have suffered extensive damage after coming down in a dry, open field.
Several people, including emergency responders dressed in protective gear, were seen gathered around the wreckage as they examined the damaged aircraft and searched through the debris.
Metal sections believed to have formed part of the aircraft’s body were scattered across the ground, while other items, including luggage reportedly belonging to people aboard the plane, could be seen around the crash site.
The nature and extent of the damage raised concerns about the condition of those who were travelling in the aircraft.
Authorities Yet to Establish Cause
The cause of the crash had not immediately been established, with investigators expected to examine the wreckage and surrounding area as part of efforts to determine what happened before the aircraft went down.
Authorities were also expected to confirm the aircraft’s identity, its point of departure and destination, as well as the identities and number of people who were on board.
Further details on the casualties and circumstances of the crash are expected as emergency and security teams continue their operations at the scene.
