Truphena Muthoni Makes History with 72-Hour Tree-Hugging Record – What’s Next for the Young Activist?
In a remarkable display of endurance and environmental activism, 22-year-old Truphena Muthoni has set a new world record for tree-hugging, spending an astonishing 72 hours clinging to a tree at the Nyeri County Governor’s office.
Moments after completing her record-breaking feat, Muthoni was immediately attended to by medical personnel and transported in an ambulance for health checks and a proper meal. The young environmentalist had endured three days and nights in cold conditions with minimal food, demonstrating extraordinary resilience and determination.
The attempt attracted a jubilant crowd from across Kenya, all eager to witness the historic moment. Muthoni had been attempting to surpass her own previous record of 48 hours, facing challenging conditions including rainy nights. Despite the hardships, she remained committed to her cause, drawing widespread admiration for her dedication.
“The support from Kenyans has been overwhelming,” Muthoni said. “Even in the rain and cold, seeing people come from far and wide to encourage me made all the difference.”
Well-wishers showed their appreciation with gifts ranging from monetary donations to a high-end smartphone and an all-expenses-paid holiday, recognising her extraordinary stamina and commitment to environmental advocacy.
Path to Guinness Recognition
Following the completion of her attempt, Muthoni and her team will submit full documentation of the marathon, in line with Guinness World Records’ guidelines. The submission will include verified evidence, witness statements, log books, and surveyor confirmations to ensure the record’s authenticity.
The Guinness World Records’ Records Management Team will review the evidence, a process that can take between five days and twelve weeks. Upon approval, Muthoni will be officially declared the world record holder for the 72-hour tree-hugging challenge and receive a formal certificate recognising her achievement.
However, officials note that if the submitted evidence does not meet the required standards, Muthoni will be informed with a detailed explanation.
Muthoni’s extraordinary feat has not only set a new benchmark in endurance records but also highlighted her commitment to environmental awareness, inspiring a new generation of activists in Kenya and beyond.
