Abducted Juja MP George Koimburi Found Dumped in Coffee Plantation

Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi, who was reportedly abducted during a church service on Sunday, May 25, has been found alive after being dumped at Jacaranda Coffee Plantation in the Kibichoi area of Ruiru, Kiambu County. His family has since confirmed that he is receiving medical treatment at a hospital near Ruiru town.

According to eyewitnesses, Koimburi was seized in broad daylight during a church service by unidentified individuals who forced him into a Subaru vehicle as congregants watched in shock. His dramatic disappearance prompted widespread concern, particularly following the emergence of videos showing him in visible pain and distress.

Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, a close political ally of Koimburi, confirmed that the MP had been targeted for several days prior to the incident. “They have been trailing him since last week when he was giving out bursaries,” the senator stated. “It was by sheer luck that he escaped on a motorbike.” Senator Thang’wa also reported that Koimburi’s wife sustained injuries while attempting to prevent the abduction.

After being missing for several days, Koimburi briefly reappeared at the Full Gospel Church in Mugutha, also in Kiambu County, only to be seized again shortly afterward. The circumstances surrounding both his disappearance and recovery remain unclear.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has denied any involvement in the MP’s abduction but acknowledged that Koimburi had been under investigation since Friday for alleged land fraud and mismanagement of Constituency Development Funds (CDF).

The incident follows previous tension involving the legislator. In February 2025, Koimburi was intercepted by DCI officers while en route to Parliament, days after publicly accusing the government of misusing over Ksh13 billion of public funds in support of Raila Odinga’s campaign for the African Union Commission chairmanship.

Koimburi’s family and supporters have voiced fears for his safety in light of recent events. As investigations continue, the MP’s condition is being closely monitored, and questions remain over the legality and motives behind his detention and alleged mistreatment.

Authorities have yet to issue a formal statement on whether charges will be brought against the MP or if any arrests will be made in connection with the alleged abduction.
