Aladwa Rejects Moses Kuria’s Offer to Serve as Running Mate in 2027 Nairobi Governor Race
Makadara MP George Aladwa has firmly rejected an offer by former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria to serve as his running mate in the 2027 Nairobi gubernatorial contest, insisting he intends to pursue the city’s top seat independently.
The clarification came on Tuesday, December 2, after Kuria publicly announced that he had settled on Aladwa as his preferred deputy in the race for City Hall. In a social media post shared on Sunday, November 30, Kuria unveiled a campaign poster featuring both leaders, suggesting they would jointly contest the Nairobi governorship.
However, Aladwa swiftly dismissed the claim, stating that he had no intention of deputising any candidate in the upcoming election.
“I saw Moses Kuria saying that I will be his deputy. I won’t be anyone’s deputy,” Aladwa stated. “I have been the Mayor of Nairobi, and now I am running for Nairobi Governor.”
The ODM legislator reaffirmed that he will be seeking the governorship on an ODM ticket, signalling what could become a competitive race within Nairobi’s political landscape.
Kuria, who declared his own bid for the governorship on October 12, has maintained that his decision to pair with Aladwa was driven not by political affiliations but by a shared commitment to addressing Nairobi’s challenges.
In his Sunday announcement, Kuria argued that the duo possessed the leadership experience and networks required to overhaul the capital’s management.
“Not because of our tribes. Not because of our parties. Because we care for Nairobi. Because we understand what Nairobians are going through,” Kuria said. “Because we have local, regional and global networks to fix Nairobi. Because we have many years of combined leadership and managerial experience. Because we are not tribal. Because we have what it takes to make Nairobi work again.”
The former CS has vowed to transform Nairobi into a model city if elected, stating in a recent update on X that his campaign would prioritise cleanliness, efficiency and modern urban management.
“I have heard your cry. That is why I will offer myself to be the Governor of the great County of Nairobi in 2027. I will fix Nairobi,” he wrote.
With both Kuria and Aladwa now openly pursuing the governorship, the 2027 race for Nairobi is shaping up to be one of the most hotly contested political battles in the country.
