Bahati in Shock as Woman Claims to Be His Mother After 25 Years: ‘My Kids Are Confused

Kenyan musician Kevin Bahati has spoken out after a woman appeared online claiming to be his biological mother, a revelation he says has left his children confused and his entire family deeply unsettled.

In a statement shared on Instagram on Tuesday night, December 2, 2025, the Mama hitmaker said he immediately cut short his engagements and travelled back to Nairobi to comfort his children, who have been raised on the long-held account of his childhood that he has always believed to be true.

“Imebidi nirudi Nairobi… My kids are even more confused… Could my mother be alive?” Bahati wrote, describing the moment he received the news.

Viral Video Sparks Family Turmoil

The confusion began after a TikTok video went viral showing a woman claiming to be his mother and appealing for forgiveness. In the emotional clip, the woman alleged she surrendered Bahati to a children’s home because she lacked the means to raise him.

“Bahati, mimi ni mama yako, nakuja mbele yako kukuomba msamaha, although uliambiwa mama yako alikufa. Mimi nilikuzaa na nikakupeleka children’s home. Sikuwa na uwezo, ndo maana nikakupeleka children’s home,” she said, adding that she had carried the secret for years and was willing to undergo a DNA test to prove her identity.

The video left Bahati stunned. He said the claim forced him to revisit one of the most painful chapters of his early life.

“But my mum died over twenty-five years ago, I personally attended the burial and witnessed her grave. This woman has confused me more. So what should I do?” he wrote.

Bahati, who grew up in a children’s home and has openly spoken about losing his parents at a young age, said he never imagined he would one day question the events surrounding his mother’s death.

“This Is Not Clout”

Amid speculation online, the singer moved to clarify that the matter was not a publicity stunt, insisting the situation had affected him in ways that “go beyond entertainment”.

“Kenyans najua mimi ni king wa kiki, nimewapiganga vipindi miaka mingi, I confess, lakini ya huyu sihusiki,” he said. “My big brother called me today, saying the woman amekuwa akikutafuta for five years adi alipiga kwa simu yake. Hizo comment zenu that anafanana watoto wangu, guys, this is a serious issue, it might look like a joke, but it is very emotional.”

He added that if there is even a possibility that his biological mother is alive, it would fundamentally transform his life and identity.

“What if my mother is alive? I think that would change my life forever, so I won’t brush it off. Maybe mimi hukuwa Mluyha na si Mkamba. I attended my mother’s funeral, I witnessed her being buried. I don’t know, should I pursue this, get DNA? I don’t even have the woman’s contact,” he said.

Unanswered Questions

For now, the singer says he is struggling to come to terms with the claims while trying to shield his children from the emotional shock of the unfolding situation. He also noted that the woman’s alleged years-long attempt to contact the family raises further questions that he feels compelled to address.

Bahati has not yet announced whether he plans to pursue DNA testing or trace the woman who made the claims, saying only that he is “still processing” the revelation and its impact on his family.
