Several Cabinet Secretaries have announced a raft of new appointments and reappointments to key state agencies, affecting institutions in the health, education, labour, maritime, water, and regional development sectors.

The changes, published through a series of Gazette Notices dated June 5, 2026, form part of ongoing efforts by the government to strengthen governance structures within critical public institutions.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale appointed Khatra Ali Abdi and Dr. Angeline Chepchirchir to the Board of the Social Health Authority (SHA), where they will serve for a period of three years.
The appointments were made under the provisions of the Social Health Insurance Act and took effect immediately.
The Gazette Notice states: “In exercise of the powers conferred by section 7 (1) of the Social Health Insurance Act, as read with section 51 (1) of the Interpretations and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Health appoints Khatra Ali Abdi and Angeline Chepchirchir (Dr.) to be Members of the Social Health Authority for a period of three years, with effect from June 5, 2026.”
According to the notice, the appointments replace individuals who had previously been appointed through Gazette Notices issued in 2025.
Meanwhile, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba appointed George Ndung’u Thuku as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kiambu National Polytechnic Council.
Thuku will serve a three-year term, replacing Francis Kigo Njega, whose appointment was formally revoked through the latest Gazette Notice.
In the maritime sector, Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary Hassan Ali Joho reappointed Ali Abdalla Mondo to the Board of Directors of the Kenya Maritime Authority for another three-year term.
The reappointment signals continuity at the maritime regulator as the government seeks to expand Kenya’s blue economy agenda and strengthen oversight of the country’s maritime sector.

Elsewhere, East African Community, ASALs and Regional Development Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul Moe reappointed seven members to the Board of the Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA) for a one-year term.
Those retained are Justina Chepnyango, Reuben Chepsongol, Rosemary Nchinyei Parengiro, Christine Jepkoech, John Lanyasunya, Shadrack Kiptugen and Simon Kalekem.
The government also renewed appointments at the Ewaso Ng’iro North River Basin Development Authority, with Aden Sugow Ahmed, Lina Adikento Marleni and Melus Lodungokiok securing fresh one-year terms on the board.
In the labour sector, Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua reappointed Samuel Biringi Mayaka as a member of the National Industrial Training Board for a three-year term effective June 9, 2026.
Similarly, Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eric Muriithi Mugaa reappointed Mbarak Hamid to the Board of Directors of the Coast Water Works Development Agency for a further three years beginning June 9.
The latest appointments come as the government continues to reorganise leadership in state corporations and public agencies, with Cabinet Secretaries exercising their statutory powers to fill vacancies, renew terms, and ensure continuity in the management of strategic institutions.
According to the official Gazette Notices, most of the appointments took effect on June 5, 2026, while others are scheduled to commence on June 9.
