Gachagua Claims State House Insiders Leaked Details of Ruto’s ‘Vision 2060’ Address
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that insiders within State House provided him with advance information about President William Ruto’s special national address — including details of the President’s long-term vision for Kenya.
Gachagua made the claims on Friday, July 31, a day after President Ruto delivered his televised address to the nation outlining his vision for Kenya beyond the current Vision 2030 framework.
The former Deputy President said he has access to sources working in senior government institutions and that he verifies information before making it public.
“I have asked the National Intelligence Service (NIS) and people working in parastatals to preserve my credibility because it is good for this country,” Gachagua said.
“I want to thank the informants. They gave me good information. I have asked people not to be defiant. I have asked them to give me credible information that is verifiable so that I preserve my relevance,” he added.
‘It came from inside State House’
Gachagua went further, claiming that some of the information he receives comes directly from within the President’s official establishment.
“It came from his office, right inside State House. People are very dissatisfied,” he alleged.
The claims, however, have not been independently verified.
Gachagua also alleged that officers attached to the Presidential Escort Unit had not received their allowances, describing the situation as a potential security concern.
“For the record, the officers from the Presidential Escort Unit have not been paid their allowances. There is a lot of dissatisfaction around the President,” he claimed.
In a separate interview, Gachagua reportedly alleged that the officers had gone four months without receiving their allowances.
He further claimed that staff associated with the Presidential Delivery Unit had complained about a lack of operational vehicles and delayed allowances.
The allegations, if substantiated, would raise questions about the working conditions of personnel operating around the presidency. However, no independent evidence has been presented publicly to support the claims.
Gachagua appeared to predict Ruto’s address
Gachagua’s remarks have attracted particular attention because, before Ruto’s address, he had publicly discussed elements he expected the President to announce.
Among the claims was that Ruto would unveil a long-term “Vision 2060” agenda and potentially announce a role for former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
While Ruto did speak about Kenya’s long-term development ambitions during his July 30 address, the anticipated announcement concerning Uhuru Kenyatta did not materialise.
The episode subsequently raised questions over whether Gachagua had obtained privileged information or was making political predictions based on publicly available information.
Murkomen dismisses ‘secret’ narrative
The former Deputy President’s claims have also faced pushback from the government.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen rejected the suggestion that the President’s development vision was secret, arguing that the administration’s long-term agenda had already been discussed publicly.
Murkomen said Ruto had previously discussed the country’s future with Cabinet members and other leaders and had also announced ahead of time that he would address Kenyans on the subject.
“Future ya Kenya sio siri,” Murkomen said, dismissing the suggestion that Gachagua had uncovered a major secret.
His comments provide a direct challenge to Gachagua’s portrayal of the information as sensitive intelligence obtained from insiders.
Gachagua accuses Ruto of political anxiety
Gachagua also used the interview to launch a broader attack on Ruto’s leadership, accusing the President of becoming increasingly concerned about his political future.
“So we have a president who has panicked, who is fearful of being removed as president after one term. Therefore, he’s making very irrational decisions,” Gachagua alleged.
The remarks add to the increasingly bitter political confrontation between the former Deputy President and his former boss as Kenya moves closer to the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua was Ruto’s deputy from 2022 until his removal from office in 2024 following an impeachment process. He has since emerged as a prominent critic of the administration.
For now, the most explosive part of his latest claims — that State House insiders are secretly providing him with sensitive presidential information — remains unverified.
Neither the alleged informants nor independent evidence supporting the claims have been publicly identified. State House had also not publicly responded to the specific allegations at the time of publication.
