KNEC Begins 2026 KJSEA Marking as Grade 10 Placement Preparation Enters Next Stage

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) is beginning the marking of the 2026 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), moving the country’s pioneer Grade 9 cohort closer to the release of results and transition to senior school.

The marking exercise is scheduled to start on Monday, November 9, following the completion of the written assessment papers.

KNEC Chief Executive Officer Dr David Njeng’ere said trained and vetted examiners were expected to report to their designated marking centres between 2pm and 6pm.

The exercise is expected to take approximately three weeks, with the council targeting the release of results in December 2026.

The results will be important in determining the next stage of learning for candidates preparing to join Grade 10 in January 2027.

KNEC prepares marking centres across the country

KNEC has designated various primary and secondary schools to host examiners handling different learning areas.

According to the information released ahead of the exercise, Mathematics scripts will be marked at Mang’u High School, while Social Studies marking will take place at Limuru Girls.

Lenana School has been designated as a marking centre for English.

Science Paper 2 examiners are expected at State House Girls and St George’s Girls, while Integrated Science Paper 1 will be handled at Pangani Girls, Starehe Boys Centre and Ngara Girls.

The designated centres will support the assessment of scripts from the national examination.

How KJSEA marking will be conducted

The marking process will combine technology and human assessment.

Optical mark recognition systems will be used to process multiple-choice components, while trained examiners will assess questions requiring written responses.

These include open-ended questions, scientific reasoning and creative writing, which require professional evaluation.

KNEC has instructed examiners to observe the approved marking schemes and maintain accuracy throughout the exercise.

The council has also warned against fraudulent online notices claiming to provide examination marking slots or deployment information.

Examiners are expected to present their national identification cards and passport-sized photographs when reporting to their designated centres for identification and security procedures.

When will KJSEA 2026 results be released?

The marking exercise is expected to take approximately three weeks.

KNEC has indicated that the results are expected in December 2026, although candidates and parents should wait for an official announcement confirming the exact release date.

The results will support the placement of learners into Grade 10 pathways ahead of the January 2027 academic year.

Parents should therefore avoid relying on unverified social media posts claiming that results are already available or announcing unofficial release dates.

What happens after KJSEA results?

After the assessment results are processed, the next important stage will be the transition of learners to senior school.

The Grade 10 placement process will determine the learning pathways and institutions that candidates will join.

Parents and learners should follow official communication from the Ministry of Education and KNEC regarding results, placement procedures and any required documentation.

Schools will also have an important role in guiding learners through the transition.

KJSEA marking marks a major milestone

The 2026 KJSEA is an important assessment because it involves the pioneer cohort completing Grade 9 under Kenya’s Competency-Based Education system.

The marking exercise therefore represents a major step in the transition to senior school.

For thousands of families, the coming weeks will be important as they wait for results and prepare for the next phase of their children’s education.

KNEC is expected to provide further communication as the marking process progresses.
