Geoffrey Kaituko Named Acting Head of Kenya’s High Commission in Canada

Kenya Names Geoffrey Kaituko as Acting Envoy to Canada Following Ambassador Carolyne Daudi’s Departure

The Kenyan High Commission in Ottawa has announced a change in its leadership, with Ambassador Geoffrey E. Kaituko assuming the role of Chargé d’Affaires ad interim following the departure of Ambassador Carolyne Kamende Daudi.

The transition, confirmed in an official statement by the High Commission, places Kaituko in charge of Kenya’s diplomatic mission in Canada until President William Ruto appoints a substantive ambassador.

“The Kenya High Commission in Ottawa is pleased to announce that Deputy Head of Mission, Amb. Geoffrey E. Kaituko, CBS, has assumed the responsibilities of Chargé d’Affaires ad interim following the departure of H.E. Amb. Carolyne Kamende Daudi,” the mission said.

Ambassador Daudi had served as Kenya’s envoy to Canada since 2024, overseeing bilateral relations between Nairobi and Ottawa during a period marked by growing trade, education, and diaspora engagement.

Kaituko brings extensive experience in both public administration and diplomacy to his new role. He has served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Kenyan High Commission in Ottawa for the past nine months, where he played a key role in strengthening diplomatic ties between Kenya and Canada.

“He has also served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Kenya High Commission in Ottawa for the past nine months, contributing significantly to the strengthening of Kenya-Canada relations and the advancement of Kenya’s interests in Canada,” the High Commission stated.

Before joining Kenya’s foreign service, Kaituko held several senior government positions. Between 2022 and 2025, he served as Principal Secretary for Labour and Skills Development and later as Principal Secretary for Shipping and Maritime Affairs, where he was involved in implementing government policies on employment, labour migration, and the maritime sector.

He was subsequently redeployed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before taking up diplomatic assignments abroad, including a posting as Deputy Head of Mission in Rome, Italy, prior to his transfer to Ottawa.

Kaituko also made history as the first Speaker of the Turkana County Assembly, serving from 2013 to 2017 during the formative years of Kenya’s devolved system of government established under the 2010 Constitution.

The High Commission said it remains committed to deepening Kenya’s partnership with the Government of Canada while maintaining close collaboration with members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, and the Kenyan diaspora.

The mission also reaffirmed its commitment to serving the more than 13,000 Kenyans living in Canada—a community that continues to expand as increasing numbers relocate for higher education, employment, investment, and family reunification opportunities.

Kaituko is expected to oversee the mission’s operations during the transition period while advancing Kenya’s diplomatic, trade, investment, and consular interests until a substantive ambassador is appointed.
