Gloria Orwoba Arrested Outside Parliament After Attempted Entry

Former UDA Senator Gloria Orwoba Arrested in Dramatic Standoff at Parliament Gates

Former nominated United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Senator Gloria Orwoba was on Wednesday arrested outside Parliament buildings in a tense confrontation with security officers that has raised fresh questions over access restrictions and political tensions within the corridors of power.

The incident occurred on April 29, 2026, when Orwoba attempted to regain entry into the Parliament precincts but was blocked by officers attached to the Parliamentary Police Unit.

Confirming the arrest in a statement to People Daily Digital, Orwoba said she was being held at a police facility within the Parliament compound following the dramatic standoff.

“I am in the cell after being arrested at the Senate gate, in a cell in the Parliament Police Station,” she said.

Eyewitness footage obtained by the publication shows a visibly agitated Orwoba confronting security officers while demanding access to the premises. In the videos, she is heard raising her voice as heavily deployed police officers stood guard, preventing her from proceeding further.

The exact circumstances leading to the confrontation remain unclear, though sources indicate that access to Parliament may have been restricted due to procedural or administrative reasons.

Her arrest has sparked debate among political observers, with some questioning whether due process was followed, while others point to heightened enforcement of parliamentary security protocols.

Orwoba, who previously served as a nominated senator under the ruling UDA party, has in recent months remained a vocal figure in Kenya’s political discourse, often drawing attention for her outspoken positions.

Authorities had not immediately issued an official statement regarding the arrest by the time of publication.
