DCI Recovers Missing Police Firearm Dumped Inside Nairobi CBD Supermarket Days After Disappearance
A police firearm that mysteriously vanished in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) has been recovered inside a supermarket along Moi Avenue, bringing a dramatic twist to a case that has sparked concern within security circles.

The weapon, a Ceska pistol assigned to an officer attached to a former Member of Parliament, was discovered following an intelligence-led operation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), nearly a week after it was reported missing.
According to a police report filed at Central Police Station, the firearm was found concealed in the luggage holding area of a busy supermarket at Development House on Moi Avenue.
The officer had earlier reported losing the weapon under unusual circumstances while visiting a barber shop and spa along Mukhtar Daddah Street on May 25.
Investigators established that the officer arrived at the establishment at around 4pm and allegedly requested a complimentary massage. During the session, he reportedly removed his service pistol and placed it beneath a cushion before settling down.
The officer later informed detectives that he began feeling dizzy and decided to rest within the premises. However, when he woke up at approximately 11pm, the firearm had disappeared.
After conducting an unsuccessful search, he formally reported the matter to police, triggering investigations by DCI officers.
The breakthrough came days later when detectives traced the weapon to the supermarket’s luggage storage section.
According to investigators, the pistol had been hidden inside a carrier bag, which was then placed inside two additional bags and mixed among fruits stored in the holding area.
Preliminary examinations revealed that the firearm remained inside its holster and had not been visibly tampered with.
“The firearm and its magazine were intact in its holster, and upon examination, the magazine was found loaded with 13 rounds of 9mm ammunition, which is two rounds less than what was earlier reported,” detectives stated in their report.
Investigators reviewing CCTV footage discovered that on May 28, at approximately 1:37pm, an unidentified individual whose face was concealed entered the supermarket and deposited the bag containing the firearm before leaving moments later.
Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers processed the scene and secured the pistol as evidence. The firearm has since been placed in safe custody pending further forensic examination.

Authorities are now working to identify the individual captured on surveillance footage as detectives seek to establish how the weapon moved from the spa where it allegedly disappeared to the supermarket’s luggage holding area.
The case remains under active investigation by DCI officers attached to Central Police Station, with police expected to question additional witnesses and review more surveillance footage in a bid to unravel the mystery surrounding the missing firearm.
