ICE Arrests Kenyan Convicted of Murder in California as Trump’s Immigration Crackdown Intensifies
A Kenyan national convicted of murder in California has been arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as President Donald Trump’s administration ramps up its nationwide crackdown on undocumented immigrants accused of serious crimes.
The arrest places the Kenyan among a growing number of Kenyan nationals who have recently been detained by U.S. immigration authorities as enforcement operations continue across the country.
According to a statement released by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Kenyan was arrested during an ICE operation conducted on Tuesday, August 4, targeting individuals convicted of serious criminal offences.
The operation focused on what DHS described as “the worst of the worst” criminal offenders, including people convicted of murder, child sexual abuse offences, drug trafficking and other violent crimes.
“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the arrest of more worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens, convicted for despicable crimes,” DHS said in a statement.
The department identified one of those arrested as a Kenyan national convicted of murder in Compton, California, before being taken into ICE custody.
However, authorities did not disclose the man’s identity or provide further information regarding his immigration status, how long he had been in the United States, the sentence he served, or whether deportation proceedings had already begun.
The arrest forms part of the Trump administration’s renewed immigration enforcement strategy, which prioritises the detention and removal of undocumented immigrants with criminal convictions.
Speaking after the latest enforcement operation, DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin praised ICE officers for pursuing individuals considered threats to public safety.
“Just yesterday, ICE arrested murderers, pedophiles, sexual predators, drug traffickers, and other public safety threats. Every day, the men and women of ICE are arresting and removing illegal aliens from our nation,” Mullin said.
The administration has maintained that its immigration strategy is aimed at removing dangerous offenders while strengthening border security.
According to figures released by DHS, more than three million undocumented immigrants have left the United States within the first year of President Donald Trump’s administration, either through deportation or voluntary departure programmes.
The latest arrest also highlights the increasing number of Kenyan nationals facing detention by ICE in recent months.
DHS data indicates that more than 40 Kenyan nationals have reportedly been arrested during recent immigration enforcement operations, reflecting a broader nationwide campaign targeting undocumented immigrants with criminal records.
The development comes only weeks after ICE deported former Kenyan NFL player Daniel Adongo, 37, back to Kenya after authorities alleged he had remained in the United States long after his visa expired in 2016.
U.S. immigration officials also cited Adongo’s criminal history, including multiple encounters with law enforcement in Indiana, as part of the reasons for his removal.
The latest operation underscores the continued focus by U.S. immigration authorities on identifying, detaining and deporting undocumented immigrants convicted of serious crimes as the administration presses ahead with one of the country’s most aggressive immigration enforcement campaigns in recent years.
