Juja MP George Koimburi Dumps Rigathi Gachagua Camp in Explosive Defection Claim

Juja MP George Koimburi has announced a dramatic break from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s political camp, accusing the ex-DP and his allies of deception, exploitation and monetising political ambition.

In a stinging attack delivered in Kikuyu vernacular on Wednesday, January 14, the outspoken lawmaker declared that he was walking away from the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), which he claims has been turned into a profit-making enterprise targeting desperate political aspirants ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking shortly after a meeting with former Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, Koimburi alleged that Gachagua had transformed the party into what he described as a “cash cow”, with aspirants allegedly required to part with millions of shillings in exchange for promises of future party tickets.

“To those who want to join that chama, I want to tell you that that party is for mikora,” Koimburi said.
“They played me a bad card. Despite being loyal to Rigathi and DCP, people came with KSh 5 million and were treated better.”

The Juja MP accused the DCP leadership of engaging in what he described as outright political corruption, claiming money was being taken from aspirants under the pretext of guaranteed nominations in 2027.

“DCP has shown ukora by taking money with the promise of tickets,” he added.

Koimburi further alleged that Gachagua was shielding himself from political risk while pushing his supporters into hostile and dangerous political confrontations.

Using a striking analogy, the MP suggested that the former Deputy President was insulated from consequences while others bore the cost.

“Rigathi has bulletproof clothes. You can’t go to war with someone wearing bulletproof clothes. They can’t be shot, but you can,” he said.

The lawmaker also claimed that Gachagua’s political manoeuvres were aimed at increasing his own bargaining power rather than safeguarding the interests of his grassroots supporters.

“People are saying that I am leaving DCP, and that is true,” Koimburi declared.
“I can now openly say that DCP is for mikora. They took KSh 5 million, brought Aloise Kinyanjui to Juja and met with him, yet I have been loyal all along.”

Following his explosive remarks, Koimburi confirmed that he was now preparing to align himself with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration, saying his priority was securing development for his constituents.

Anticipating backlash from opposition figures, the MP insisted that his decision was not influenced by financial inducements or political persuasion from the ruling coalition.

“No one has bought me,” he said.
“The people of Juja lack water and resources. I will join the government so that we can get development projects like roads. I can confirm that no one approached or paid me.”

Koimburi’s defection marks the latest political setback for Gachagua as divisions continue to widen within Mt Kenya’s political landscape ahead of the next election cycle.
