Kinangop MP Zac Kwenya Loses Father

Zac Kwenya Thuku has been thrown into mourning following the death of his father, Mzee Thuku Wa Kwenya, prompting an outpouring of condolences from political leaders, residents and supporters across Nyandarua County.

The second-term Kinangop Member of Parliament confirmed the heartbreaking news through an emotional Facebook tribute in which he described his late father as a central pillar in his life and faith journey.

“Dad, you have departed the physical realm, gone to live eternally with your maker whom you served,” the MP wrote.

In a deeply personal message, the Jubilee Party legislator praised his father as a mentor and disciplinarian who played a major role in shaping his character and leadership.

“This wonderful soul; my loving Dad, my instructor, disciplinarian, my first preacher and teacher, my mentor and role model,” he added.

Following the announcement, Kenyans flooded social media with messages of sympathy and memories of the late Mzee Kwenya, many recalling his contribution to education and community development in Kinangop.

One mourner remembered him as a respected figure during their school days.

“I will continue remembering Mr Thuku Wa Kwenya when he was our PTA chairman at Muruaki Secondary during our schooling time,” the supporter stated.

Another tribute described the deceased as instrumental in the early growth of Muruaki Secondary School.

“So sad to learn of the passing on of my dear friend Mr Thuku Kwenya. He was very supportive of me when we were struggling together to build Muruaki Secondary School during the early days. Rest peacefully my dear friend,” read another condolence message.

Political leaders also joined in mourning with John Methu expressing shock over the death.

“I’ve woken up to the very sad news of the passing on of Mzee Kwenya, father to our Member of Parliament,” the senator stated.

“My sincere condolences to Hon. Kwenya Thuku and his family during this difficult season,” he added.

The death comes at a time when Zac Kwenya remains one of the prominent Jubilee Party lawmakers who retained their seats during the 2022 General Election despite the party’s declining influence nationally.

After his re-election, the MP was among Jubilee legislators who pledged to work with President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration in early 2023, signalling a shift in political alignments within the opposition-linked party.

Kwenya is now the latest Kenyan politician to lose a parent in recent days after Jared Okello also announced the death of his mother earlier this month.

Funeral and burial arrangements for Mzee Thuku Wa Kwenya are expected to be communicated by the family in the coming days.
