KMTC Announces Fully Sponsored Nursing Training for Turkana and Refugee Communities

KMTC has launched a new scholarship program for fully funded training in Community Health Nursing. The program is a collaboration between KMTC, UNHCR and Turkana County Government.

According to KMTC CEO Kelly Oluoch, the program will start in September 2025/2026 academic year and will benefit residents of Turkana County and refugees in Kakuma and Kalobeyei camps. Training will be at KMTC Lodwar Campus.

Successful applicants will join the Upgrading Diploma in Community Health Nursing (Distance Learning), a 2 year course for professionals who already have a Certificate in Community Health Nursing. To be eligible, candidates must have at least 2 years of work experience after certification and be registered with Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).

Eligibility is further restricted to residents of Turkana County or the two refugee camps. Applicants must submit a letter of introduction from the local Chief (for county residents) or UNHCR official/manager (for refugees).

Applications are only accepted through the KMTC online admissions portal at https://admissions.kmtc.ac.ke. Deadline is October 9, 2025. KMTC said no manual or email applications will be accepted.

For new users, candidates must create an account by providing basic personal details before filling the application form. Once submitted, applicants must verify the information, print the form, attach supporting documents and upload the final package back to the portal. Refugee applicants must also indicate their nationality and select “Foreign” when filling in county and constituency details.

This is after KMTC recently called for applications to alternative programs including Higher Diplomas, Upgrading Diplomas and short courses for students who missed the September intake.
