Murkomen Issues Tough Warning as Police Recruitment Bribery Crackdown Begins
The government has issued a stern warning to Kenyans against engaging in bribery during the upcoming national police recruitment, with Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen pledging firm action against offenders.
Speaking on Sunday during a church service at A.G.C. Kaboson in Bomet County, Murkomen cautioned both recruiters and applicants against offering or accepting bribes, insisting the exercise must be transparent.
“We demand transparency and accountability. Those who are carrying money when people go to run so that they can bribe, we want to tell you that we will arrest you,” he said.
Murkomen urged members of the public to use their phones to record anyone attempting to bribe or solicit bribes during the recruitment and report such cases to authorities. He noted that citizens often record politicians but fail to capture incidents of corruption that directly affect their communities.
“We want you, as local Kenyan communities, to come out as observers. We want your support for those who will be bribing, to record them and bring them to us so that we can sort out this thing of corruption,” he added.
The CS further directed that all recruitment activities across the country must end by 5 p.m., with successful candidates announced immediately to promote transparency.
“We want the exercise to be completed by 5 p.m. so that we can be able to announce all the successful applicants,” he said, assuring that the process will be fair for all applicants.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja confirmed that the recruitment will take place on November 17, 2025, in all sub-counties.
According to the National Police Service, eligible applicants must be Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 28 years, possess a valid national ID, and have a minimum KCSE grade of D+ with at least a D+ in English or Kiswahili. Candidates are expected to report to designated recruitment centres by 8 a.m. with their original certificates, ID cards, birth certificates, and, where applicable, NYS discharge certificates.
