Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has issued a stark warning over what he claims are calculated attempts to weaken the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), even as he unveiled plans for a series of high-stakes political rallies across the party’s traditional strongholds in Nyanza.

In a strongly worded statement shared on his official X account on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, the outspoken lawmaker alleged that unnamed forces were orchestrating “diabolical schemes” aimed at dismantling the influence of the Raila Odinga-led party, which has dominated the region’s political landscape for over two decades.
“We will not sit back and watch ODM be destroyed,” Olekina declared, striking a defiant tone. “This party is mightier than those plotting against it.”
The senator revealed that he is preparing to traverse key counties including Kisumu, Homa Bay, and Migori in what he described as a mobilisation drive to “reawaken the spirit” of the party’s loyal base.
According to Olekina, the rallies will serve not only as a show of political strength but also as a reminder to residents of those who stood firmly with ODM leader Raila Odinga—popularly known as “Baba”—during politically turbulent periods.
“We must remind our people who stood with Baba when it mattered most,” he added, hinting at underlying tensions and shifting allegiances within the opposition landscape.
Olekina’s remarks come amid growing speculation over internal divisions and external pressure facing ODM, raising questions about the party’s cohesion ahead of future political contests.
In a pointed comparison, the Narok senator dismissed any suggestion that ODM could suffer a fate similar to that of the once-dominant KANU party, whose influence has significantly waned over the years.
“ODM will not go the KANU way,” he asserted. “We are stronger, more resilient, and deeply rooted among the people.”
His warning is likely to intensify political debate, particularly in Nyanza, long regarded as ODM’s bedrock, where any perceived cracks in loyalty could have far-reaching implications.
