Officer Reveals How Alleged Plot to Attack Gachagua Was Planned at Vigilance House

Chaos erupted with reports of teargas, disruptions by armed goons, damaged vehicles, and claims of an attempted attack or assassination on Gachagua.

The incident occurred on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at Witima ACK Church in Othaya, Nyeri County, where former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was attending a church service.

A police officer involved has come forward with explosive allegations in a Daily Nation report, claiming the disruption and planned attack were orchestrated from Vigilance House (Police Headquarters) in Nairobi.

Bombshell Revelation: Officer Exposes Plot to Disrupt and Attack Gachagua

A serving police officer, who was part of the operation, has detailed how plans were allegedly hatched to target former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during his church appearance.

Planning Meeting at Vigilance House

The officer claims a high-level meeting took place at Vigilance House in Nairobi. It was convened by two senior police officers and three elected leaders from the Mt Kenya region—including one woman—who gave instructions.

The directive reportedly included disrupting the service and, if possible, injuring Gachagua.

Assembly of the Team in Nairobi

On Friday, January 23, 2026, a team of 15 officers was assembled in Nairobi. They received clear orders to disrupt the church service at Witima ACK Church, where Gachagua was expected to attend.

The team was instructed to link up with about 20 youths from Nyeri to carry out the operation.

Orders for Non-Interference by Local Police

Area police were allegedly ordered in advance not to interfere with the plan. This ensured minimal resistance from local law enforcement during the execution.

The officer quoted: “We were cleared on Friday evening to disrupt the Gachagua church service. Area police were ordered in advance not to interfere. The mission was to attack Gachagua and, if possible, injure him.”

Internal Resistance Within the Police Team

Not all officers were on board. The source revealed loyalty issues and reluctance among some team members.

“Some of us were afraid to attack a church. There were loyalty problems, as well as some officers openly showing support for Gachagua,” the officer said.

This internal division reportedly created hesitation in fully executing the plan.

The Disruption on Sunday Morning

Shortly after Gachagua arrived at the church around 11 am, vehicles—including a van and a Toyota Probox, escorted by a police patrol—entered the compound.

The service descended into chaos, with reports of teargas being lobbed, gunshots, worshippers fleeing (including clergy and Gachagua escaping through a fence in some accounts), and vehicles damaged amid clashes between goons, police, and supporters.

Gachagua later claimed it was an assassination attempt, accusing rogue elements linked to the government.

This revelation has intensified political tensions, with calls for investigations into police conduct and political interference in the Mt Kenya region.
