Samidoh Breaks Silence with Cryptic Quote Amid Transfer Reports

NAIROBI, Kenya — May 30, 2025 — Mugithi artist and police officer Samuel Muchoki, popularly known as Samidoh, has stirred speculation after posting a cryptic message on social media following reports of his transfer to Baringo County.

On Thursday, May 29, Samidoh shared a photo of himself standing beside a UK police vehicle, casually dressed in a tracksuit. The image was captioned with a quote widely associated with political dissent: “When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty” — a phrase attributed to Thomas Jefferson.

This post came just a day after Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja addressed media queries on Wednesday, May 28, regarding rumors of Samidoh’s transfer. While the IG refrained from confirming the specifics, he emphasized that all transfers within the police service are conducted according to established regulations.

“Police officers are civil servants and are subject to regulations and procedures, including transfers,” Kanja stated. “If the officer you have mentioned is one of us, then he is subject to those conditions. Therefore, he may have been redeployed or transferred to the area he is currently in.”

Samidoh has reportedly been reassigned from the central region police headquarters to the Administration Police’s Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Gilgil, and further transfer to Baringo has been speculated. Sources suggest the move is linked to a viral video from May 16, in which Samidoh is seen performing while revelers chant “wantam” — a slogan used by opposition figures critical of President William Ruto.

The National Police Service has not officially commented on the disciplinary action or provided further clarification regarding the artist’s status.

As a popular public figure with a dual career in law enforcement and entertainment, Samidoh’s case has drawn public attention and raised questions about the balance between official duty and personal expression. Further developments are awaited to clarify the implications of the reported transfer.
