Samidoh Fires Back with Proof of Police Travel Clearance After Order of His Arrest

Popular Kikuyu musician and serving police officer Samuel Muchoki Ndirangu, alias Samidoh, has denied deserting duty, producing official documents allowing him to travel abroad.

Samidoh, who is attached to the Administration Police’s Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Gilgil, released a letter dated April 25, 2025, which permits him to travel to the United States from May 20 to June 9, 2025.

The clearance, signed on behalf of the Inspector General of Police by Mathew Kutoh, allows him to go for a private visit and all expenses will be borne personally.

“Travel clearance is hereby granted to the above-named officer to travel to the United States of America for a private visit,” the letter reads. “The officer will leave the country on May 20, 2025 and return on June 9, 2025.”

Despite this clearance, a report from the National Police Service (NPS) claims Samidoh failed to report back to duty on May 27, and his whereabouts are unknown. The report seen by Flashnews states, “Since then CMM has not been seen and his whereabouts are not known.” It further notes that the officer has been absent for over ten days without communication and disciplinary procedures have been initiated.

Under the National Police Service Act, Chapter 84 (Revised 2014), such an absence can be considered desertion. Section 94(1) of the Act provides that any officer absent without leave or justification for more than ten days shall be deemed to have deserted the service. Section 94(3) outlines the consequences: “Any police officer who deserts from the Service commits an offence and is liable on conviction to summary dismissal or imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years.”

Samidoh was recently transferred from the Central Region Police Headquarters to ASTU in Gilgil, a move the service described as normal administrative procedure.

During a press briefing on May 28, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja said, “All officers are subject to administrative and procedural changes. The matter of Officer Ndirangu will be addressed through the right channels if necessary.”
