Shock as Missing Man Found Buried in His Own Compound After Weeks of Search

Residents of a Kisii village were left in shock after detectives unearthed a body suspected to be that of 67-year-old Meshack Mainye Miyaki — a man who had been reported missing for nearly three weeks — buried within his own compound.

According to family members, Miyaki was last seen alive in late October, when he left home for work but never returned. His disappearance was formally reported to the police on October 27. Despite numerous efforts to trace him, the family’s worst fears were confirmed this week when a shallow grave was discovered just a few meters from his house.

Authorities were called to the scene, where detectives exhumed the remains believed to belong to Miyaki. The grim discovery has since sparked outrage among relatives, who accused the police of negligence in handling the matter.

Speaking to reporters, a close friend of the deceased recounted the harrowing moment the family realized there was a body buried on the property.

“We scratched the surface a little bit, and the arm came out,” he said. “The grave was not very deep — just about one and a half meters. We first saw the hand, then there was a foul smell. Eventually, we saw the stomach, then the legs. It was horrifying.”

He added that the community was struggling to comprehend the brutality of the act.

“Whoever killed Mainye and buried him here did a terrible thing. As Christians, we strongly condemn such evil.”

Relatives say the discovery has left them both devastated and angered, claiming that the police did little to assist when the disappearance was first reported.

“We kept insisting that something was wrong, but there was no urgency from the authorities,” one family member said. “It’s painful to think that all this time, he was right here in the compound.”

Police have since launched an investigation into the murder and are pursuing leads to identify those responsible for the killing. The body has been taken to a local mortuary for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Local leaders have condemned the incident, calling for swift justice and improved response by law enforcement agencies in missing persons cases.

The investigation remains ongoing.
