Singapore-Based Kenyan Entrepreneur Launches Raila Airways

A bold new venture is taking off—literally. Sheila Mutundi, a Kenyan model and entrepreneur based in Singapore, has revealed plans to launch an airline named after the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Speaking exclusively to Kenyans.co.ke, Mutundi shared that “Raila Airways” is set to soar in the coming weeks, aiming to put the iconic leader’s name on the global aviation map.

A Tribute to a Legacy

“We chose the name Raila as a tribute, to honour his legacy and keep it alive,” Mutundi said. She explained that the project springs from admiration for the former Prime Minister and her own drive to make a mark in business.

Describing Raila as a once-in-a-generation leader, Mutundi added, “Raila was a truly remarkable, one-of-a-kind leader, and his name deserves to be on billboards and named after every great thing.”

International Ambitions

Raila Airways won’t be sticking to Kenyan skies. Mutundi confirmed the airline is targeting international routes, with plans already in place for a Malaysia-to-Kenya flight. Operations are expected to kick off in 2026.

Dismissing rumors that the airline is a publicity stunt, she said, “This is a long-term venture. Right now, we’re in the preparation phase, making sure everything is set up properly.”

Backing and Partnerships

Funding, Mutundi revealed, comes from a mix of local and international investors, although she emphasized that the project remains open to new partners as the launch approaches.

Images and videos shared by Mutundi give a sneak peek of the airline’s interior, branded with the initials ‘R A O’ and screens displaying the airline’s full name—Raila Airways.

No Political Agenda

Despite the high-profile name, Mutundi was quick to clarify that the airline is not politically aligned. “While Raila was a political figure, our airline is not politically affiliated in any way,” she said, aiming to distance the business venture from politics.

From Humble Beginnings to Global Ambitions

Mutundi’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. She revealed that her mother once sold chang’aa, an illicit brew, while her father worked as a security guard.

Despite these financial hurdles, she transformed her family’s fortunes, building them a home they could be proud of. Today, Mutundi travels the world, jetting off to destinations like Santorini, Vietnam, and Bali—a lifestyle she has clearly earned through determination and vision.

She previously made headlines after being spotted in Bali with George Ruto, son of President William Samoei Ruto, but this latest venture firmly cements her status as a rising entrepreneur with big ambitions.
