The victim, who was shot at close range on Moi Avenue on June 10, had earlier been pronounced dead after horrific videos of the shooting went viral online.
The circumstances surrounding Ojwang’s death are under scrutiny after an audio recording of a phone call he made to a friend following his arrest emerged.
In the call, Ojwang expressed fear for his safety while in police custody, saying he had not been told of any charges and was waiting for clarification from authorities.
The announcement was made through a statement issued by NPS Corporate Communications Director Muchiri Nyaga on behalf of Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja in the early hours of 9 June 2025.
