CCTV Captures Moment Nairobi Man Is Robbed of KSh 1M in Broad Daylight
A businessman was robbed of KSh 999,000 just minutes after withdrawing the cash from a bank along First Avenue in Parklands, Nairobi. The incident happened around 2:00 p.m. and was captured on CCTV.
According to police, the victim had placed the money (in an envelope) under the co-driver’s seat of his car before exiting the bank’s basement parking. Moments later, when he reached the nearby junction, his car was blocked by a silver Toyota Axio with five occupants who had been lying in wait.
Two suspects got out of the salon car (one of them was in police uniform and had a pistol) and approached the businessman’s car. They hit the driver on the head, took his car keys and the envelope with the cash and sped off. The getaway car was last seen making a U-turn and heading towards Limuru Road.
The visibly shaken victim later reported the incident at the nearest police station. Police are investigating and analyzing CCTV footage from the bank and surrounding streets to identify the suspects and their movements.
“This kind of incident raises serious questions on how criminals can track individuals immediately after large cash withdrawals,” a senior officer involved in the investigation said. Police have not ruled out insider involvement, citing similar past cases where bank staff allegedly tipped off criminal gangs.
The robbery is part of a growing trend in Nairobi and other urban areas where individuals are being targeted after making big bank withdrawals. Police are advising the public to minimize the risk by asking for escort services when carrying large amounts of cash or using secure digital transfer methods.
As of now, no one has been arrested. Ongoing investigations.
