DCI Takes Over Jimmy Mutava Abduction Probe as CCTV Footage Raises Fresh Questions
Kenyan detectives have taken over investigations into the alleged abduction of businessman Jimmy Mwanzia Mutava, with a specialised DCI unit now pursuing fresh leads surrounding his disappearance in Mlolongo.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has stepped into the investigation surrounding the reported disappearance of businessman Jimmy Mwanzia Mutava, days after he was allegedly abducted under unclear circumstances in Mlolongo, Machakos County.
The DCI said detectives from its Anti-Abduction Unit have taken over the case following a report lodged at Mlolongo Police Station on July 27, 2026.
In a statement, the agency said its detectives were pursuing several persons of interest as they sought to establish exactly what happened to Mutava.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) wishes to inform the public that detectives from the DCI Anti-Abduction Unit have taken over investigations into the reported alleged abduction of Jimmy Mutava,” the agency said.
The directorate added that investigations were ongoing and that detectives were working to establish the circumstances surrounding the reported incident.
The development comes as Mutava’s family continues to seek answers over his whereabouts, with CCTV footage reportedly providing investigators with crucial clues about his final known movements.
CCTV captures Mutava before disappearance
According to reports surrounding the case, Mutava arrived at an entertainment establishment in Mlolongo at approximately 6:30pm after reportedly being dropped off by a white vehicle.
Shortly afterwards, a senior police officer attached to Mlolongo Police Station was seen entering the premises before Mutava joined him.
Subsequent CCTV footage has reportedly captured events outside the establishment later that evening, with reports indicating that armed men forced Mutava into a waiting vehicle.
The footage has intensified questions surrounding the circumstances of his disappearance and what happened after he left the establishment.
However, the circumstances shown in the footage remain subject to investigation, and no individual has been formally convicted or found responsible for Mutava’s disappearance.
DCI appeals for information
The DCI has appealed to members of the public who may have information capable of assisting investigators to come forward.
The agency said information can be provided confidentially through its reporting channels as detectives continue pursuing leads.
The latest intervention by the specialised Anti-Abduction Unit comes amid growing concern over Mutava’s whereabouts and mounting pressure for authorities to establish what happened to him.
The investigation is expected to focus on Mutava’s movements before his disappearance, the people he met on the night in question and the vehicles and individuals captured on surveillance footage.
For Mutava’s family, the central question remains unanswered: where is the businessman, and what happened to him after he was last seen in Mlolongo?
The DCI said it would continue updating the public on significant developments as the investigation progresses.
