Chwele-Kabuchai MCA-Elect Faces DCI Summons Over Nandi Coffee Robbery Days After Election Win

Independent MCA-elect Eric Wekesa, who recently stunned Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s FORD-Kenya party with a decisive victory, is now raising the alarm after being summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Wekesa clinched the Chwele MCA seat with a commanding 6,162 votes (67%), trouncing FORD-Kenya’s Vincent Maunda, who managed 2,765 votes. But barely days after the upset win, he found himself at the centre of an unexpected criminal inquiry.

On Monday, December 1, the MCA‑elect shared a WhatsApp message allegedly sent by a DCI officer in Nandi County. The message instructed him to report to their offices in relation to a robbery incident—one that oddly appears to be dated in the future.

According to the summons, detectives want Wekesa to appear on December 1 regarding a robbery that supposedly took place on November 29 2029, in Tinderet sub‑county, where coffee berries were allegedly stolen violently.

The officer, identified in the text as Peter Ochieng, CCIO Nandi County, cited Section 52 of the National Police Service Act while warning that failure to appear could lead to unspecified action.

However, the MCA‑elect believes the timing and nature of the summons are politically motivated. Posting on Facebook, Wekesa suggested the move may be part of a scheme to detain him before being sworn in as a Bungoma County Assembly member.

He accused Speaker Wetang’ula of being behind the alleged plot, claiming the FORD-Kenya boss has refused to accept defeat in the hotly contested race.

“This is outrageous! Why can’t their PL accept he lost? Didn’t we agree to reconcile and unite our people?” Wekesa wrote. He further alleged that six armed men have been trailing him since his victory.

He dismissed the robbery claims entirely, saying he neither grows nor trades in coffee, joking that the only thing he does with coffee is drink it.

“Tuliwashinda kwa kura, hii ya DCI pia tutashinda. Mungu yupo,” he declared, insisting he will not be intimidated.
