KNEC Flags Fake National Exam Papers Circulating Online
Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has issued a warning to parents, teachers and candidates preparing for the upcoming Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) not to fall prey to fake examination papers being shared on social media.
In a statement issued on Friday, September 5, the council said the so called exam papers circulating online are not genuine KNEC documents. “Don’t fall for these scams. Stay alert!”
The fake papers claimed to be official KNEC materials and had documents labeled as KJSEA English, Mathematics (Grade 9 KJSEA–2025), Christian Religious Education (Code 908) and Kiswahili (Msimbo 902). The warning comes as the council is set to administer the Grade 9 KJSEA — the final assessment in the junior school cycle — in October 2025.
KNEC clarified that authentic information on national examinations, including sample papers and timetables, is only available on its official website. According to the council, the legitimate KJSEA sample papers were uploaded on January 20, 2025, for learning purposes only.
“These sample papers are free of charge and follow the same format that will be used in the October 2025 national assessment,” the council said, reiterating its commitment to transparency in assessment.
The council also reminded schools and students of the new changes introduced for 2025 exams. Unlike in the past, candidates will now be required to shade answers on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) sheets instead of drawing lines.
“This change in answer sheet design affects both KPSEA and KJSEA candidates and is to align Kenya’s assessment system with international best practices,” KNEC said.
With exams just around the corner, the council has advised stakeholders to rely on official communication channels and not be misled by fake individuals who want to exploit anxious learners.
