Murang’a MCA Grace Nduta Arrested Over Alleged Role in Juja MP Koimburi Disappearance
Murang’a County’s Kanyenyaini Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA), Grace Nduta Wairimu, was arrested on Thursday, May 29, in connection with the alleged disappearance of Juja MP George Koimburi. The arrest was confirmed by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), which named her a person of interest in what authorities describe as a stage-managed abduction.
According to a statement released by the DCI on Thursday evening, MCA Nduta was taken into custody in Gatanga and is being held at a local police post as part of ongoing investigations into the incident. “We wish to confirm that Grace Nduta Wairimu was arrested today as part of an ongoing investigation of the stage-managed abduction of Hon. George Koimburi,” the DCI announced.
News of her arrest first surfaced on social media, with Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata revealing on X (formerly Twitter) that the MCA had allegedly been taken by unidentified individuals. Subsequent reports confirmed that she was being held at Samuru Police Post in Gatanga.
Authorities believe that Nduta was with Koimburi on May 25, the same day reports of the MP’s alleged abduction began circulating. Although the MCA initially claimed she had been attending a church service at the time, DCI investigations allege she was instead at a bar and restaurant in Gatundu South in the company of Koimburi.
Further details emerged suggesting that the MCA had been lured into a meeting under the pretext of discussing official matters. Her driver, who dropped her off at a hotel, reported suspicious activity shortly after and confirmed she had been taken by three unknown individuals. “I dropped her and left. After leaving her, I spotted a car with windows rolled down, and I called my boss to confirm whether everything was alright. I was informed that she had been taken,” the driver stated.
There is growing speculation surrounding the political dimensions of Nduta’s arrest. Allies close to the MCA have linked her troubles to her political allegiance, particularly her support for Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
MP George Koimburi, who was reported missing on Sunday, May 26, was later found at a coffee farm in Kiambu County. Government sources have since denied claims of abduction, further intensifying scrutiny and calls for accountability.
The arrest of MCA Grace Nduta marks a significant development in the unfolding saga surrounding Juja MP Koimburi’s disappearance. Lawmakers are calling for thorough investigations and the prosecution of all individuals involved. As the investigation continues, the public and political observers await clarity on the circumstances surrounding the purported kidnapping and the roles of those implicated.
