Mystery in Nanyuki as 62-Year-Old Man Found Dead in Thicket

Mystery Deepens as Two Men Found Dead in Separate Suspected Murder Cases

Police have launched investigations into two separate deaths in Laikipia and Tharaka Nithi counties after the bodies of two men were discovered under mysterious circumstances, with detectives treating both incidents as suspected murder cases.

The first incident occurred in Nanyuki, where residents were left shocked after the body of a 62-year-old man was discovered abandoned in a thicket.

According to police reports, the body was found in a bushy area in Nturukuma, Milimani, within Laikipia East Sub-County on Tuesday.

The deceased was later identified as James Ndirangu.

Investigators who visited the scene noted that Ndirangu’s body bore visible injuries on the chest and hands, raising suspicions that he may have been attacked before his death.

“Initial observations at the scene revealed injuries on various parts of the body. The matter is being investigated as a suspected murder pending further investigations,” police said.

Forensic officers processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination.

Detectives are now working to establish Ndirangu’s final movements and determine whether foul play was involved.

In a separate incident hundreds of kilometres away, police in Tharaka North Sub-County are investigating the death of a 47-year-old man whose body was found lying by the roadside.

The incident was reported at Kiamiramba Police Station at around 7:50am after a resident identified as James Murari discovered the body near his homestead in Twanthanju Sub-location.

Police officers accompanied by personnel from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) rushed to the scene and identified the deceased as Cyrus Mugao Njeru, a casual worker attached to KWS Mugao Camp.

Authorities said preliminary examinations revealed bruises on the head, elbow and lower abdomen, prompting detectives to classify the case as a suspected murder.

“The injuries observed on the body necessitate further investigations to establish the circumstances leading to the death,” investigators said.

Adding to the mystery, a motorcycle believed to belong to the deceased was recovered at the scene together with his mobile phone and other personal belongings.

The discovery has raised questions among investigators, who are trying to piece together the events that unfolded before Njeru’s death.

Crime scene experts processed the area before the body was transferred to Marimanti Level IV Hospital Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

No arrests have been made in either case.

Police have appealed to members of the public with information that could assist investigations to come forward as detectives continue pursuing leads into the two mysterious deaths.
