PS Korir Sing’Oei Breaks Silence on 2027 Trans Nzoia Governor Claims After Campaign Poster Sparks Speculation
Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei has firmly dismissed widespread speculation linking him to the 2027 Trans Nzoia gubernatorial race, insisting he has no intention of seeking any elective office and remains fully committed to serving in government.
The clarification came after days of intense online speculation, amplified by the circulation of a campaign-style poster depicting Sing’Oei alongside President William Ruto and his recent visit to Trans Nzoia County, where he inspected several national government development projects.
In a statement issued on Monday, July 20, the Principal Secretary described the reports as false and urged Kenyans to ignore claims suggesting he was preparing to challenge incumbent Governor George Natembeya in the next General Election.
“Just to be clear: I have no interest in seeking any elective office in 2027. I am singularly focused on advancing Kenya’s interests in my current position, advancing select community initiatives and supporting the realization of the government’s transformative agenda. Treat any information to the contrary as false,” Sing’Oei said.
His remarks were intended to put to rest growing political chatter that had dominated social media over the weekend, with some users interpreting his increased visibility in Trans Nzoia as the beginning of a gubernatorial campaign.
The speculation gathered momentum after Sing’Oei toured several government-funded projects in the county. Combined with the circulation of campaign-themed graphics bearing his image alongside President Ruto, the visit fuelled claims that he was positioning himself as the Kenya Kwanza candidate for the county’s top seat in 2027.
However, the Foreign Affairs PS has now categorically denied the reports, stressing that his priority remains executing Kenya’s foreign policy, promoting national interests abroad and supporting the implementation of President Ruto’s development agenda rather than pursuing elective politics.
Political Interest Builds Around Trans Nzoia
Although Sing’Oei has ruled himself out of the race, political interest surrounding the Trans Nzoia governorship continues to intensify ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The seat is expected to become one of the country’s most fiercely contested positions, largely because of Governor George Natembeya’s increasingly prominent role in national opposition politics.
Natembeya, who won the seat in 2022 on a Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) ticket, has emerged as one of President Ruto’s most outspoken critics. The governor has repeatedly accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of marginalising sections of the country and has engaged in public political confrontations with senior government leaders, including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
His criticism of the administration has fuelled speculation that Kenya Kwanza will field a formidable challenger in an effort to reclaim political influence in the Western Kenya region during the next election cycle.
Among those who have already publicly declared an interest in the governorship is former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha, who has openly expressed her intention to contest the seat in 2027.
For now, however, Sing’Oei has sought to draw a clear line under the speculation, maintaining that his attention remains fixed on diplomacy, public service and delivering on the government’s policy priorities—not the campaign trail.
