Jaoko Oburu, son of Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga and nephew of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has provided fresh details regarding his father’s recent trip to Dubai.
In a video shared on social media on Saturday, November 22, 2025, Jaoko revealed that the newly appointed Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader was encouraged to take a short break to rest and rejuvenate after an intense political period.
“We took mzee to go and rest. We forced him… we forced him that he has to take a break. Atarudi at the end of next week,” Jaoko said.
He further described his father’s downtime, adding: “Mzee ameenda uko kunyoroshwa, kutembea tembea juu anapenda kutembea.”
Jaoko also dismissed circulating claims that Oburu Odinga’s trip was due to health complications, affirming that the ODM leader is in good health. “Hakuenda na shida yoyote,” he stated, confirming that his father would return next week.
Ruth Odinga Confirms Dubai Trip
Earlier, Kisumu County Woman Representative Ruth Odinga confirmed that Oburu Odinga had jetted off to Dubai for a three-day break to rest and recharge.
“ODM Party Leader Oburu Oginga has travelled to Dubai for a three-day visit to rest following a hectic political period,” Ruth posted on social media.
Busy Political Schedule
Since the passing of Raila Odinga, Oburu has been at the forefront of managing the Odinga family’s affairs, including overseeing the late leader’s funeral and coordinating party activities.
Shortly after Raila’s burial, Oburu took charge of planning for the ODM’s 20th-anniversary celebrations, during which he was confirmed as party leader. The milestone event brought together senior party members, delegates, and supporters to mark two decades of ODM’s political legacy, with Oburu playing a central role in organisation and coordination.
He has also been instrumental in stabilising the ODM, amid claims of internal divisions. Speaking on November 19, 2025, Oburu stressed the importance of party unity, saying:
“Those who want to break ODM, it will never happen in my hands. We shall not allow ODM to be divided. We are going to move forward and make ODM stronger so that when it comes to 2027, we are either going to do it alone or negotiate a good deal to work with other parties.”
