Murkomen Reveals Progress in DCI Probe of Slain Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu
Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen has announced breakthroughs in the ongoing investigations into the murder of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu who was shot dead on Tuesday evening along Magadi Road in Nairobi.
Speaking in Migori County on Thursday, Murkomen said detectives had already identified several persons of interest in the killing. He said those were being interrogated as the DCI pursued more leads.
“We have been in touch with the DCI since this happened and I am happy to say there is progress. Some persons of interest have been identified,” Murkomen said.
The CS also revealed that many eyewitnesses had come forward to give information to investigators. He commended the public for their cooperation and asked those with information to report to the nearest police station.
“Those persons of interest are being interrogated and many others will be sought. We thank the eyewitnesses who were at the scene and many others who are giving information to the DCI,” he added.
Murkomen who described Mbobu as his teacher and friend mourned the slain lawyer as an eloquent and knowledgeable professional. He recalled Mbobu’s role in shaping his academic journey in university.
“This is a very sad thing that has happened in our country and it’s like what happened to Ong’ondo Were. I am very sad because Mbobu was my teacher and my friend,” he said.
The CS assured Kenyans that the government will ensure a swift and thorough probe and justice will be served.
Mbobu a renowned advocate was shot dead by unknown assailants while driving home after attending meetings in Nairobi’s CBD. Preliminary investigations by the DCI revealed he was shot five times in the head and died instantly. Three used cartridges were recovered at the scene.
A post-mortem examination by Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor will be done on Thursday September 11 at Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi to establish more details about the lawyer’s death.
Murkomen’s statement comes after the DCI earlier confirmed a high level team of investigators had been assigned to the case given its sensitivity.Mbobu is dead.
