Officer Accidentally Shoots Himself During Thieves’ Chase in Kiambu
A police inspector stationed at Thindigua Police Post in Kiambu County is nursing serious injuries after accidentally shooting himself while pursuing suspected thieves.
The incident occurred when the officer was chasing a gang accused of stealing a gate from a construction site. In the heat of the chase, the inspector attempted to draw his Ceska pistol but mistakenly pulled the trigger, sending a bullet into his left thigh.
Colleagues quickly rushed him to hospital, where he was admitted for surgery to remove the lodged bullet. Police confirmed that the suspects were eventually apprehended and remain in custody, awaiting arraignment in court on Monday, September 1, 2025.
In a separate case in Murang’a County, another officer sustained injuries during patrol duty in Gitugi, Mathioya. Reports indicate that he fell into a ditch and hurt his left hand while on duty.
Meanwhile, in Kisii County, a senior female police officer came under scrutiny after firing two rounds into the air during a domestic altercation with her husband near Kisii University. She was questioned over alleged misuse of a firearm.
Despite the incidents, police assured the public that operations continued smoothly, with the stolen gate in the Kiambu case already recovered following the suspects’ arrest.
