Raila Odinga’s X Bio Updated as Foundation Assumes Control of His Online Legacy
The social media presence of late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has shifted gears, with the RAO Foundation now taking the reins on his online accounts,The foundation – one of the latest additions to the roster of organisations working to preserve the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader’s legacy – gave his X profile a bit of a refresh on Thursday, 30th of October
“The RAO Foundation is all about keeping alive the memory of the Right Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga, CGH. You know him as Dad, a former PM, a mystery, a true hero & also Baba . Born in 1945 and sadly passed in 2025,” the new bio now reads to the 4.9 million followers he left behind on X
According to the folks at the foundation, these online accounts will still carry on Odinga’s legacy by pushing the democratic, peaceful and equal rights that he always championed : but that’s not all – they will also be commemorating great memories and sharing clips from a life that went all the way back to the early days of his public life.
Odinga’s last post on X was a simple retweet from his own son Raila Odinga Jr, who shared a bit of footage showing him being installed as the new head of the Odinga clan . You may also recall that on Facebook, where he had around 2.3 million close friends, his final update came just a few weeks prior to this, showing him with some officials from Gor Mahia Football Club
The switch online mirrors the changes going on more widely in ODM leadership. After his passing away on the 15th of last month, due to a heart attack, his elder brother Oburu Odinga was put forward as the interim party leader on October 27th and we also had the ODM Central Management Committee agreeing to go on working with President William Ruto’s administration right through till 2027 – that’s in line with the political pact they both came up with in March
For all his supporters this means that in a way they can keep Odinga’s voice alive, even though he is no longer with us.
