Edwin Sifuna Welcomes Former LSK President Faith Odhiambo to Linda Mwananchi Movement Amid Political Speculation

Odhiambo, who gained national prominence through her outspoken defence of constitutional rights and criticism of government policies she says undermine civil liberties, was on Tuesday pictured alongside senior Linda Mwananchi leaders during what appeared to be a symbolic welcome ceremony.
Images shared by Sifuna showed Odhiambo standing alongside members of the movement next to a branded campaign caravan, with supporters gathering to receive her.
The Nairobi Senator appeared enthusiastic about the latest addition to the movement, posting a message on social media that suggested Odhiambo had been formally embraced by the group’s leadership.
“Full parade to welcome Madam President. Welcome to Linda Mwananchi, Faith Odhiambo,” Sifuna wrote.

While the photographs have generated considerable political discussion online, it remains unclear whether Odhiambo’s participation signals a formal entry into active politics or simply reflects shared ideological positions with the movement.
Attempts to obtain clarification from Odhiambo were unsuccessful by the time of publication, as calls and messages seeking comment reportedly went unanswered.
Fresh Questions Over Political Future
The latest development comes at a time when Odhiambo continues to occupy a prominent position in Kenya’s constitutional and governance debates.
On Tuesday, she joined hundreds of legal practitioners in criticising the High Court’s judgment regarding the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, arguing that the ruling raises significant constitutional concerns that require further scrutiny.
A three-judge bench found that the Senate violated Article 50 of the Constitution by declining to grant Gachagua an adjournment when he was unable to attend impeachment proceedings. The court consequently awarded KSh50 million in constitutional damages.
However, despite finding that Gachagua’s right to a fair hearing had been violated, the judges upheld the impeachment process.

Odhiambo questioned whether the court’s reasoning could create a dangerous constitutional precedent.
“My concern is about the precedent this decision may establish. If a constitutional violation during impeachment proceedings can be remedied by damages without disturbing the outcome, future Parliaments and Senates may not feel the full weight of their constitutional obligations when handling removal proceedings,” she said.
According to Odhiambo, the right to a fair hearing is a substantive constitutional safeguard that should not be treated as a mere procedural technicality.
History of Challenging Government Decisions
Odhiambo has repeatedly found herself at the centre of national political debates.
In July 2024, she attracted widespread attention after publicly rejecting an appointment by President William Ruto to serve on the Public Debt Audit Task Force, which had been established in the aftermath of the Gen Z-led anti-government protests.
At the time, the LSK argued that the task force was unconstitutional and unlawful, insisting that the responsibility of auditing public debt already falls within the constitutional mandate of the Auditor-General.
Odhiambo echoed those concerns, warning that the proposed body risked duplicating the work of existing state institutions while potentially leading to unnecessary expenditure of public resources.

Her decision to decline the appointment earned praise from some governance activists and critics of the administration, further cementing her image as an independent voice on matters of constitutional accountability.
With her appearance alongside Sifuna and the Linda Mwananchi leadership now drawing national attention, political observers are expected to closely watch whether the former LSK President remains an influential civic leader or takes the next step into elective politics.
For now, her exact role within the movement remains undefined, but her arrival has undoubtedly added fresh momentum — and intrigue — to Kenya’s evolving political landscape.
