Kalonzo Dismisses Claims of Secret Deal to Hand Nairobi Seats to Gachagua’s DCP Party
Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has rubbished claims that his party has entered into a covert pact to hand over all Nairobi elective seats to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).
Speaking during a thanksgiving service in Machakos County on Sunday, November 30, 2025, Kalonzo criticised the reports circulating online and in select media outlets, calling them “cheap propaganda” meant to sow discord within the Opposition.
Kalonzo said those spreading the narrative were deliberately attempting to create friction between him and Gachagua, warning that such schemes were aimed at undermining the unity recently displayed by Opposition leaders during last week’s by-elections.
He insisted that the Opposition coalition would not be shaken by what he described as coordinated efforts to trigger tension within its ranks.
“Watu waache hii propaganda wanasema ati Wiper imeachia DCP viti vyote Nairobi. You know they have to try everything wagonganishe Kalonzo na Rigathi Gachagua — that will not happen,” he said.
Kalonzo also told worshippers that he had seen reports suggesting the government was secretly crafting a coalition for the 2027 elections to counter a united Opposition.
However, he dismissed the alleged plan as unworkable, saying it would “collapse from within”.
“Nimeona kwa magazeti ati serikali inatengeneza coalition ya 2027. Kwanza watapasukia katikati — it will not work,” he remarked.
The Wiper leader stressed that the Opposition would continue strengthening its grassroots networks countrywide and would not be distracted by attempts to create a false perception of internal conflict.
He added that the Nairobi seat rumours were not only misleading but also aimed at weakening public trust and fuelling unnecessary suspicion among Opposition supporters in the capital.
Kalonzo further claimed that the unity shown by Opposition leaders during the recent by-elections had unsettled certain government operatives, prompting a fresh wave of misinformation targeted at dismantling that cohesion.
He urged supporters to ignore the speculation, assuring them that any decisions regarding Nairobi politics would be made openly and through structured consultation — not through backdoor negotiations.
During the church service, Kalonzo also called for peace, truthfulness, and national unity as the country inches closer to the 2027 General Election.
He said Kenyans deserve leadership grounded in integrity and service, not politics built on division.
Kalonzo reiterated that the Opposition remains focused on providing alternative leadership and safeguarding democratic space, despite what he termed as increasing attempts to distort its image and discredit its internal unity.
